Seminar 2010

DO WE HAVE THE RIGHT METHODS AND TECHNIQUES TO ASSESS THE FUTURE HUMAN ROLE IN THE NEW ATM ENVIRONMENT IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE?

3rd and 4th November 2010

Universita degli Studi di Napoli Parthenope

and

Universita degli Studi di Napoli Federico II

Naples, ITALY

The challenge in assessing the human performance for the achievement of the human role (Pilots, CTAs, ATM Manager) in the incoming ATM environment is engaged from academic / scientific perspective. The multidisciplinary environment, the open mind approach, the complexity of the domains, is the humus for stimulating the scientific community to face and win the issue. Human factors and human resource management areas play a main role in developing the future automated ATM system which at same time satisfies both user (human) needs and business strategies.

Under the perspective of an overall improvement of ATC/ATM system features and performances, the humans are going to play a determinant role in assuring the effectiveness of expected changes, at conceptual, technical and organizational levels. Allegedly, they will be asked to deploy skills, attitudes and personal resources differently from now in order to manage the new Operational Concepts and related Technological Enablers, with particular attention to the transition phase.

Furthermore the need of increased ATM system performances shifts the focus from Human Factors as a concern of safety issues to the “efficiency of human factors”, since human performances should implement optimized perception/decision/action cycles in order to support the ATM system efficiency and not only the ATM system efficacy.

The Verification and Validation (V&V) activities and techniques (HIL ,MBS, analytical, etc.) for assessing and evaluating the innovation and managing the change impact are based on idea to full fit the human representation into automatic model. Taking in mind this axiom the V&V outcome is a fundamental step to put in operation the innovation.

Topics of the seminar are:

  • Human performance assessment reliability vs. viability
  • Human performance markers now and in the future
  • Full automation: human performances & system performances
  • Operational concept human factors evaluation

The 2nd ASDA Seminar is managed by a Programme Committee:
